The Iberian
lynx is the world's most endangered felid species, listed by the
IUCN as "critically endangered". Once found throughout the southern
part of the Iberian peninsula, the last few decades have seen a
dramatic decline. Intensive surveys, most recently using camera
traps, have confirmed that the species is now probably extinct in
Portugal and survives in only 2 fragments in Andalusia, Spain; the
Donana area in the south, and the Sierra Morena mountains of the
north. This picture was taken with a camera trap in the Sierra
Morena. |
